Hi parents, student and families-
I wanted to apologize for the lack of updates to the page last week! Parent-Teacher conferences took up a lot of my time and planning. Thank you to all of the families who were able to attend. It is so nice to meet the parents and families of my students. It really helps me to communicate student needs to the parents, and to get to know where my students come from. Thanks again!
Last week in Math 7, the students continued to learn about converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. They also learned how to order rational numbers from least to greatest. We will continue to practice with these skills and move into adding and subtracting rational numbers in this upcoming week.
In Math 8, we continued to work on the coordinate plane. The students are becoming better at translating (sliding) points and shapes on their planes. There is still a bit of a struggle with plotting points on the plane, and explaining location of points using coordinate pairs. We will continue to work on these skills and move into reflections this week.
In ELA 7 and ELA 7/8, we wrapped up our independent reading unit. The students worked very hard from Wednesday-Friday to create a Book Review about the book they have been reading. It was so fun to read through them and get their book recommendations. These will be posted around the room for other students to look at and get ideas of books to read. Spelling continues to be a struggle for the students. Please be sure your child is studying at home, and doing the homework!
This week we are going to begin working in collaboration with their Social Studies course. The students have been reading about Asoka with Ms. Cooper. We are going to take all of the information they have learned and create a persuasive essay. Is Asoka a Ruthless Conqueror, or an Enlightened Ruler?
In Resource we continued with our scheduled interventions, Read Naturally and Moby Max (math and language). They also responded to a writing prompt about students eating healthy and getting their vitamins and minerals. We want to focus on including a topic and closing sentence in these prompt responses, and keeping an eye on spelling.
We are preparing for another great week in room 16! Please contact me with any questions. And, again, I apologize for the lack of updates last week.
**Half Day on Wednesday, November 19th. Please prepare for your student to be dismissed from school at 11:05 AM.
